Habits - Animated Explainer Video

An animated explainer video about how to develop good habits.

Script For The Animation

The script was influenced by the articles, 7 Habits of Incredibly Happy People by Gregory Ciotti, How to Make Good Habits Stick: 7 Secrets From Research by Barrie Davenport, The Power of Small Wins: Why Celebrating Your Progress is Crucial for Long-Term Success by Patrik and How to Stop Procrastinating on Your Goals by Using the “Seinfeld Strategy” by James Clear. These articles helped SHENNY to lay the foundation for the script and also acted as an anchor for the video.

SHENNY wanted to write the script in a way that was easy for viewers to recall, so SHENNY decided to break it down into three main sections for the video. Start Small, Create Habit Addictions and Celebrate Your Small Wins.

There is more to creating good habits than these but SHENNY thought these were particularly useful and a good starting point to include in the animated explainer video.

SHENNY also wanted to present a problem(goals not being achieved/goals being difficult to accomplish) early in the animated explainer video so that people could see how developing good habits could benefit them before demonstrating how it's possible to develop them.

Also when writing the script SHENNY made sure to write it in a way that would be useful for when it came to designing the assets. For example, SHENNY planned from the beginning to use characters, as it would be the best way to make the animated explainer video relatable.

Colours

SHENNY planned early on that the dominant colour for this animated explainer video would be green. The colour green is often associated with renewal, life, freshness and growth, which is the main theme of an explainer video like this. Green is also understood to be the most restful and relaxing color for the human eye to view.

Storyboard

Once the script was finalised, the storyboard for the animated explainer video was created, complete with annotations.

Characters

By carefully planning the animation with a storyboard, SHENNY had a clear vision of what would unfold during the animation phase.

This also informed decisions when it came to character design. The most complex animation was going to be the run cycle and that involved only one character so SHENNY designed that one character with that in mind.

SHENNY also wanted to make sure the character designs were not too complex so that when it came to rigging with DUIK in After Effects it would not be too time consuming.
